Workin’ out.

Holy cow, for the past two weeks I have been to the gym 3 days a week and busting a hump. My new workout (which is captured by the individual machines and electronically stored and relayed to a web interface) consists of 8 stations (3 leg and 5 arm/shoulder). That weight training takes about 25 minutes, then I do 35 minutes on a cardio machine (usually an elliptical which is also wired). Go me.

This week is going to be messed up, since we are headed to Ohio on Thursday night. We also lost the membership ID’s for the girls so picking them up from the Kids place would be les than easy. Yesterday I managed to get them replaced.

spinning_bike50.jpgMonday H and I went to spin class, it was my first time. I was not really sure what to expect. I ended up parking the absolute furthest away from the door, and had to back to the car because I left my G-2 bottle. By the time I got back H had my bike all set up. She helped me adjust the seat, and we got started. I knew H had talked to the instructor when she asked if there were any first timers and I raised my hand with a few others and gave me the “oh yeah, you.” look.

I was surprised by the fact that the big wheel is linked to the pedals such that the rider can not “coast”. To stop the wheel you have to ungracefully try to back pedal. Once I got that figured out the rest of the class went okay. (not counting H dropping her water bottle 5 minutes into the class).

I managed to keep up and will go back again. I did think about Biscuit while we were there since this is her gig, and our instructor also mentioned Body Pump, which is also Biscuit’s gig. (Although I dont know if this instructor also does BP).

Tuesday was a regular workout and today I’m not sure what I will do since we are leaving tomorrow. I haven’t been on the scale in a while so I dont know how that is going, maybe next week. :)

Goin’ the right way

As my wii fit is happy to announce every day I am obese, however it deemed my wii fit age at 24, so I got that going for me. (switch those numbers around and you will get my true age this year). It is also happy to report that I am on a steady track to reach my goal of losing 20 pounds on the next 6 months. So yea me.

I had read Biscuit’s latest post where she talks about yoga poses. I am not big on yoga, but have found some of the posses to have merit, and doing them on the balance board where it shows you your center of gravity to be a good feedback for how to do them properly. Having said that there are just some that I am completely incapable of doing. I have never been flexible even as a kindergartner I can recall not being able to touch the floor with my hands during gym class. Any pose that starts “put your foot in your hand” is pretty much a no-go in my book.

At work I am working on a couple projects that are keeping me just busy enough that the day goes pretty quickly, but not so busy that I feel overwhelmed. On the bonus side these projects give me the opportunity to do some of the work at our headquarters building which is 1. closer to home, and 2. affords me the potential to have lunch with my favorite women.

So as John Stewart says, and now for your moment of Zen:

Radio Silence

Posted on January 5th, 2009 in Bloggers Block, exercise, family, food, health, housekeeping, Random thoughts, sisters, weight, wii by g-man || 12 Comments

This radio silence was brought to you compliments of the holidays and my overwhelming laziness. I do hope that your solstice and new year celebrations were most excellent, and I wish for us all that 2009 bring peace and prosperity.

My vacation had ups (sleeping in most every day) and downs (watching my lovely wife slip and fall in a puddle of vomit at 2am), but mostly it was positive. The wii was a big hit this year, I bought Wii Fit for my wife (and the rest of us too) it is really fun AND you get some real exercise from it, although having it call you obese every day is a bit much. My “wii fit age” (something it calculates as your approximate health age) has bounced about from 58, to 32, to 42, so I’m not really sure what to make from that. Also for the wii I got Guitar Hero World Tour (With the drums and Microphone) from my MIL, I will need to practice! Each of the girls got wii games too, so in the cold of winter we will have lots to do.

Now that the holidays are over and we are back to work, we are on a lifestyle reduction plan. We are trying to reduce our debt, our clutter, and our weight. Last night Heather went through our closet and removed all the crap from the floor, and buddy there was a LOT of crap. We sorted through all of it and all the tee shirts and have a huge pile for the Good Will, and bonus we have space in the closet AND you can still see the floor. I may build some shelves to complete the project, we’ll see.

On the debt and weight reduction side, we are not going to be eating out as much, and we will be continuing our regular visits to the gym. More to the point *I* will be continuing my regular visits to the gym, Heather already exercises regularly. She asked me to do the “Couch to 5K” so that I can start running. I hate running, but I love my wife more, so I will be starting that some time. I will also go back to watching more of what I eat. Part of my eating problem stems from my mood, when I am down I don’t care what I eat and will eat to feel better. I was also chatting with my little sis not too long ago and we concluded that we three sibs have the same pathology when it comes to food (and shopping for clothes apparently). When we eat, we tend to order a lot because we don’t want to miss out on anything. I’m not sure why that is, but growing up we were poor and didn’t eat out save for a rare occasion. As for shopping we all seem to find something we like then buy it in different colors. It was not until this chat that we discovered that we three exhibit these same behaviors. Spooky huh?!?

I had lots of moments over the past week where I thought “Ooo this could be funny to blog about.” but by laziness got the better of me.

Here is to a fantastic 2009!

This week I had to hit the archives. While I had a few ideas of what to shoot, I just never got around to shooting any of it. Enjoy.

The words for this week are:

Raw and Finished

If you haven’t joined the fun, go see Tink here for details.

For larger size presentation click here.

The plus part … Holy crap what a busy weekend. Saturday was non-stop, and Sunday we rode around the airport again (and didn’t get lost). H says it is 14 miles, my ODO said 10, but I am pretty sure it is not configured for my size wheels. With all that exercise one might think that I dropped a couple pounds. Um, no. I gained 4. WTF over? I was eating reasonably well, and not skipping any meals, so I reiterate WTF?

I hope that this is only a “muscle is heavier than fat” thing and with the added muscle mass I will burn calories faster and the ripped dude under the layer of pudge will once again reign.

HMS Friday! & Bed update

Posted on March 14th, 2008 in health, HMS Friday, Random thoughts, sleep (or the lack thereof), weight by g-man || 17 Comments

(I know Dana will be happy to see the title of this post :)

It seems that we are back to a normal routine today and as such can continue with Hot Monkey Sex Friday. To any new readers this is a weekly (or whenever there is nothing else pressing to interfere with it) post with a frank discussion on human sexuality. Usually We will have a topic and and a question at the end for you to ponder and comment on as you see fit.

So we got our new Tempur-pedic bed last weekend. I had such high hopes that it would eliminate my lower back pain and provide such a good sleeping posture that I would no longer snore, and therefor not be kicked in the middle of the night by my lovely wife, and therefore get a full nights sleep which would leave me completely rested and rejuvenated. The results were not as dramatic as I had hoped. I continue to wake up with lower back pain from a ruptured disc, but it is not as bad as it had been, and the rest of my back is much better in the morning. I still snore, but not as bad (H can confirm or deny this one). So all-in-all a good purchase, I will continue to hit the gym and watch what I eat and all that in the hopes of further improving my sleep/pain issues.

Of course being consenting vibrant young adults and having a new bed, well one needs to make sure it works under varying conditions. (wink) We “broke it in” the other night and since had another “session”. I must say it is a good platform for the aerobatics “hot monkey sex”. It is supreme for that post coital melting into the bed and going to sleep cuddling.

So that brings me to this weeks topic. What to do after the intercourse? Do you like to cuddle, chat, sleep, get a sandwich, do it again? Personally I am a sleeper. It doesn’t matter what time of day, afterwards I like to close my eyes basking in the afterglow, feeling my lovely wife’s body close to me and drift off to sleep. Fortunately for me our alone time only comes after the kids are in bed, so sleep is usually the next item on the agenda for us.

How about you, what do you do after?
